Umoja was founded by a young black man from Maryland by the name of Shawn Armwood in 1998. His focus was to find artists with a drive to be in the music business but didn't know where to start.
Writing his own music and finding the talent to promote he made his name known in North Carolina before deciding to put Umoja to work in Maryland.
With the help of his co-founder A.D. Allen, Umoja is becoming a well known name in the Washington D.C. area. Currently working with 15 artists and more every day Umoja is moving forward with the velocity of a fright train welcoming everyone to catch a ride.
